How to Tap Into Your Inner Wild for Health and Wellbeing with Fiona Montgomery
Do you feel, stuck, bored or trapped by your life?
The chances are you have lost touch with your inner wild side.
We all have a place inside that longs to express itself freely: To sing without holding back, to dance without caring who is watching, to say what we really feel…..it’s the part of you that is bold, unique and doesn’t fit into society’s box.
I spent many years trying to be acceptable all the time, accommodating other people’s needs without taking care of my own and being a good girl who did what she was told. The result was that I squashed myself into a shape that wasn’t the real me, and I lost touch with my wellbeing, which ended up with me being really ill for 12 years.
When I finally understood that the root cause of my illness was losing touch with my authentic self, I made steps to change all the ways I was denying my inner power, my wild side.
As I made these changes my wellbeing returned rapidly and I now have amazing health and an awesome life to boot!
So how do you reconnect with your inner wild? Here are 5 easy starting points….
1. Dance/movement
Dancing helps us to tap into our authenticity. When we get out of our heads and drop into our bodies we immediately access our wild power and free up the energy within ourselves. It moves stagnant energy, and helps open our minds to creativity and fresh thinking. It is a fast and easy way to shift our state from disempowered to empowered, and it’s fun!
2. Boundaries
When we let people walk all over us it makes us feel small and powerless. By contrast, holding clear boundaries helps us to access our inner truth and sense of agency. This is the realm of our wild nature….the place that knows exactly what is good for us and what to say no to. Holding our boundaries helps us to feel safe and strong in the world, and to stand up for what we believe in.
3. Time in nature
Switching off our phones and screens and heading out into nature is an essential part of reconnecting with our wild. Walking in the forest, by the river or spending time by the ocean will immediately help us drop inwards. Walking barefoot, when weather allows, is a fabulous way to feel more connected too. Getting outside in the elements everyday, no matter what the weather is doing, and really noticing what is happening seasonally around us, helps us to feel our relationship with the wild nature that we are part of.
4. Pleasure
Allow yourself to experience pleasure and really enjoy it! Massages, aromatherapy oils, long delicious baths, beautiful music, yummy foods….just some of the ways we can find pleasure. Discover all the ways you can enjoy being in this body in a way that feels deeply pleasurable and enlivening. Our inner wild comes alive when we are enjoying ourselves or having fun!
5. Creativity
Let yourself go wild with paints or crayons, allowing your artistic side to be expressed. Going “no- holds-barred” on how you express will open up another side of you that can often be shut down in our day to day life. Find some art materials that you love to work with and switch off from any other distractions for a while as you channel your inner artist
So these are some pointers to get you started, and I would love to hear other ways you find to connect with yourself.
Time and time again I see that the more true we are to our own authentic nature, the better we feel in our minds and bodies. Even 20 minutes a day spent connecting with our inner wild can bring huge benefits and changes to our life.
Have a go, and see how your inner wild wants to be expressed today!
