Can we afford to let 50% of midlife women leave the workforce due to midlife changes? with Nina Divall
With 50% of women in midlife leaving the workplace due to changes relating to their mental and physical health. I wanted to ask the question.
“Can we afford for this to go unnoticed?”
The Midlife workforce is highly experienced that can be shared with others and they are a hardworking part of the community.
However, due to the changes they experience during the midlife and menopause transition they are, sometimes, unable to feel they are functioning at their best, they feel they are not as good as they used to be and feelings of crippling doubt, forgetfulness and anxiety are getting in their way.
The UK Government is offering a Midlife MOT to get people in their second half of life to look at improving their lives and health for the better so they are at their best and able to carry on with their lives.
Employers can help these women know their worth in the world of work by having the understanding of what changes can occur at this time will help employers keep these vital members of our workforce.
The midlife years can affect how a woman views herself and how she thinks others view her at work and in her personal life.
It’s vital that the male members of the workforce understand this moment in womens lives to not only understand their work colleagues and how it affects them but also how it affects the women in their own lives.
We should not be allowing these women to take early retirement because they feel they are no longer able to carry out their jobs as they used to or they feel they aren’t firing on all cylinders.
There are simple ways to stop this from happening. It just take some understanding and implementation in the workplace.
The mental wellbeing of midlife women is where these changes should start.
Mental blocks stop them from thriving and achieving what they should. Uncovering and removing these blocks and feelings will allow them to focus on enjoying their midlife and enjoying their work.
The health of women in midlife is the key to helping them thriving, coping and feeling their best. Their physical, mental and social health is a key and how their health is managed can affect these feelings they experience
Health is not just about what we eat and how we move it is also about how we feel both mentally and physically, how we interact with our family and friends, how we treat ourselves and how we allow others to treat us.
This approach to the word health goes a long way to helping us be able to live a life we deserve.
The train is moving on the tracks to a better understanding of midlife, lets keep it moving a not allowing the passengers to jump off before they should.
